The new AFL Members Association is currently conducting an unofficial survey of AFL Members, which may challenge the results of an official AFL survey carried out earlier in the year.
The AFL's official survey quizzed 4000 members on diverse topics including options for future Grand Final ticketing. "Unfortunately, respondents were only offered options that began with the assumption that there would not be anywhere near enough tickets to go round", said Michael Agrotis, AFLMA Media Spokesman. "Since the AFL put up to 5000 Medallion Club members into our reserve and gave them priority over us for tickets, that's been the unhappy case."
Interestingly, what the AFL's survey failed to do was give respondents the choice of the old "walk up" option that existed prior to 1997, where Full AFL Members took seats on a "first come, first served" basis. In a large 1993 survey over 70% of members said they preferred the walk-up method. In the 2001 survey it isn't even an option.
The AFLMA survey gives members this option, and asks questions members want to answer. It is open to ANY current member and the AFLMa will publish the results in full. "In the official survey there were questions asking members whether they'd value being able to buy an AFL Members tie or scarf", said Mr Agrotis, "But what members really want is the Grand Final seat they have paid for in their membership".
