The AFL Members Association applauds the AFL's announcement that it intends to restore the age of Junior AFL Membership to back to 7 years of age next year.

For the 2001 season the Junior Membership age was controversially reduced to 4, forcing AFL Members with very young children to take out $86 junior memberships.  In previous years, when parents added their children to the membership waiting list it was on the understanding they wouldn't have to pay anything until the year in which the child turns 7.

"At 4 and 6, my kids are simply not ready to go to the football", says AFL Member Ross Symons, "They didn't attend a single game last season but I was forced to pay $172 or they'd be taken off the membership list."

In bringing back the previous age level, the AFLMA believes the AFL has acknowledged it made a mistake this year.  "I'm going to ring the membership department and ask them for my money back", said Mr Symons.

The AFLMA commends the AFL for listening to its members on this issue, and supports affected AFL Members in their requests for a refund.
