AFLMA FOOTBALL TRIVIA NIGHT

The AFLMA conducted its inaugural social function on Thursday 22 August

at Bell's Hotel & Brewery in South Melbourne - and what a fantastic

occasion it was. More than 130 members and friends crammed into Bell's

"Annies Room" to test their football knowledge. Committee Member Greg

Salter researched and prepared more than 100 questions, including extra

rounds in the event of a tie, and acted as quiz-master and compere. A

highlight of the evening was the spontaneous singing of "It's a grand

old flag", the Melbourne theme song, during the recorded music segment.

Most of the Committee were present and President Michael Agrotis began

the night by welcoming the large crowd and outlining the latest AFLMA

initiatives.

All AFLMA Members know that membership is free, therefore fund-raising

and/or sponsorship is essential. The Trivia Night raised just on $1,360

after expenses, a tremendous effort. Special thanks to Bell's Hotel &

Brewery for providing the venue free of charge and donating a raffle

prize. Other prizes were generously donated by the Grand Chancellor

Hotel (Lonsdale St, Melbourne), the visiting United States Aussie Rules

Football Team, the Knox and Fountain Gates AFL Shops, Hungry Jacks,

Caprice Curtains and Fabrics, Kraft Foods, CUB, Prouds, and RiceGrowers

Co-Op.

There was a great atmosphere throughout the evening with everyone

present thoroughly enjoying the fun. The only down side were the

additional people that turned up, necessitating some extra tables at

the entrance to the room in an area where it was difficult to hear.

There is every chance that the AFLMA Trivia Night will become a regular

event, so start doing your homework now.

AFLMA MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

The AFLMA has about 4,000 members. That's a nice number but we need

more members.

Subsequently, membership recruitment is an important part of the

Association's activities. And it's an area where everyone can help.

Each of you can assist by downloading our Sign-up sheet from the AFLMA

website (www.aflma.com) and taking it (and a clipboard and pen) with

you to the football.

Hand the sheet around the AFL members who are sitting near you and tell

them about their Association. Don't worry if you only sign-up 5 or 6

people.

You can also take the sheet with you when queuing for finals tickets.

Once the sheet is full of names and contact details simply return it

to the address or fax number noted on sheet. It may cost you 45 cents

and a little time, but the payback in protecting your rights will be

well worth it.

If you have already have the sign-up sheet loaded on your computer

please download a new copy. We've recently added a flyer that will

assist you in telling fellow AFL Members about the AFLMA, what it

stands for, what is has achieved and what it aims to achieve in the

future.

It is only with your continued support that we will be able to work

on your behalf and kick goals.

If you can't access the AFLMA webpage please contact us (our contact

details are below) and we'll email you the Sign-up package.
